Donations to the Town of
Shandaken Ambulance Squad are an integral part of the advancement of
the Ambulance service as a whole. The Squad is funded by taxes, which
we strive to keep as low as we can for the 3,500 individuals that call
Shandaken their little place of solace in the Catskills. Heck, most of
us live here too!
Aside
from bringing a level of care far exceeding national standards
Shandaken Ambulance brought back to its taxpayers over $168,000.00 in
revenue for the year 2009 from medical billing and is expecting even
more in 2010. All of these monies will be directly deposited into the
Town general fund to defer taxes of the Town of Shandaken residents as
a whole. The Ambulance is the largest revenue producing entity for the
Town secondary to real property tax in 2009.
Even
though we may bring in this extra money to benefit the Town of
Shandaken, our budget is fixed and we recieve no extra monies
regardless of our revenues.
The
Town of Shandaken Ambulance Budget for year 2010 is just over
$300,000.00, which
includes salary expense, contractural expense, medical equipment and
supplies, training, uniforms for 30 employees, upkeep on the fleet, and
so on and so forth.
This
may seem like a lot of money, however comparably speaking that amount
is a bargain. The EMS industry average unit/ hour figure for an
Advanced Life Support Ambulance is $73-75 all inclusive of salary &
benefits for an EMT & Paramedic/ vehicle upkeep/ equipment/ fuel/
etc. That's a total of over $645,000.00 for 24/7 coverage!
Shandaken Ambulance provides a crew of three- a Paramedic, EMT, and
Driver with backup crews and administration for less than half of that
24/7/365 and produces extraordinary revenue to defer taxpayer expense
to boot! Ask other Townships in the Mid Hudson Valley and
Catskill
Mountains how much they are paying a contracted ambulance service to
provide Advanced Life Support care to its residents without the benefit
of revenue recovery and you'll be surprised!
To
say the least, money is tight, as it always has been, and as it is for
most others that call this
great country their home. We at Shandaken Ambulance strive to keep on
the cutting edge of prehospital medicine and technology to better serve
the patient and make sure he or she recieves the absolute pinnacle of
Advanced Life Support care they can get..And you can make a difference!
